Hey Everyone........

So, I am an Occupational Therapist by profession but a full time child by heart. By now you must have understand that I love to be with kids, play and learn from kids.

During my journey of more than one decade with these kids, I have learnt many things professionally as well as personally.

In this journey I have to unlearn many things and learn new things such as Brain Gym (Level 1) to enhance the functioning the Brain, Neuro-developmental Treatment to help them regain their physical Independence, Bayley's Scale for Infant and Toddler, Jolly Phonics, Therapeutic Listening. As they say learning is never ending hence currently I am undergoing MNRI training and Sensory Integration Therapy (S.I.T) Certification to understand them and their unique ways. By the end of these courses I wish to get to see the world through their eyes

WHY THIS BLOG!

The decision to pin down my thoughts in writing was purely incidental since I have a huge mental block for writing. The longest article I have written after my master’s thesis (submitted decade earlier) are the assessment & progress reports of kids at my therapy center. However in my line of work I never shy away from talking to parents irrespective of the fact whether they are my client or not.

During this entire journey one common thing I have observed in all parents whether it’s a parent of a newly diagnosed kid or a parent who have been to almost all therapies or therapy centers in their knowledge, mostly their queries are common and can be easily segregated as per the years that have crossed since their kid was diagnosed.

Some of you may not agree to my point and contest that it may vary parent to parent and I totally agree with you as there are different factors which result in queries such as degree of acceptance, limitations etc. but most of the parents always have same kind of queries/concern for their child.

From there I decided to start my own blog where I can put my views, opinions, suggestions and share my experience of working with kids and hope to create a resource pool which will help parents to at least have some basic answers without frightening them.

We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing

Let’s Play

Since childhood, I was more into play than studies, and in our times we had lots of options to play outdoor which resulted in me being an average student.
After school when I applied for medical seats I accidentally got admission into Occupational Therapy. But as they say
“NOTHING IS ACCIDENTAL THERE IS EXISTENCE BETWEEN THE CAUSE AND RESULT”
In my very first year of study I was offered to change back to M.B.B.S. but I think universe had different plans, by then I have decided to continue in this field and work with kids. Still back then I have no idea that it will be so much FUN. Today I will not trade this fun for any amount of money. Thanks to these kids, I get to live my childhood again and again in the most pure and innocent form. These kids always keep the child inside me alive and never let me feel that I am in some kind of work….. It’s only fun & play in all imaginable forms….

This has made my belief stronger that

PLAY IS NOT A LUXURY; IT’S A NECESSITY….. IT BUILDS THE KIND OF FREE-AND-EASY, TRY-IT-OUT, DO-IT-YOURSELF, CHARACTER THAT OUR FUTURE NEEDS.

Children’s learn as they play or we can say in play children learn how to learn.

In my upcoming post I will talk about a lot of things but one thing (and also welcome any suggestion on any topic you would like to read about) I always prefer is to make learning and teaching through play and would request you play with your kid and re-liveyour childhood.
